Sam Airey and his new Single “Station Approach”

Sam Airey returns with the new single Station Approach, the first single taken from sessions for his debut album. Following on from the highly acclaimed single ‘The Blackout’ and ‘A Marker and a Map’ EP, Sam has built on his live show featuring the talents of members of ¡Forward, Russia!, Grammatics & Dancing Years, bringing the excitement he has nurtured live on to record for the first time.
Station Approach is about capturing the spirit of youth and holding on to it while you still can. With crashing guitars, atmospheric drums and an explosive finale, it shows a greater scope than heard previously on Sam’s records. Stars on the reverse, lays Sam’s voice bare, enhanced only by the gentle rocking guitar line.
As well as being available digitally, the single is being released on limited 7” vinyl and is backed by a new version of the track ‘Stars’ that originally featured on Sam’s 2010 EP ‘Season’s Change’. Both tracks were produced by whiskas (¡Forward, Russia!) who also plays guitar on Station Approach, and the single was mastered by Tom Woodhead (also of iForward Russia!).
Sam Airey originates from the Isle of Anglesey, but has long now resided in the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire. Raised in rural North Wales on various types of folk and country music, Sam blends these influences with the sounds and experiences he has encountered along the way. The reception of previous singles has seen Sam record a Maida Vale session for Huw Stephens and Radio 1 as well as appearing on Steve Lamacq’s Radio 2, feature as Lauren Laverne MP3 of the day and finally have ‘The Blackout’ named as BBC Radio Wales’ ‘Song of the Year’ in 2012. Sam and his band have appeared live at Latitude Festival, SWN, Kendal Calling amongst others and he’s already made his debut national television appearance on Channel 4 show Freshly Squeezed.
