The Mercy Alliance is a Washington DC based band led by songwriter Joe Rathbone specializing in emotive, melodic indie rock with an aggressive rhythm section featuring long-time DC drummer David Lopez, who’s lyrical playing provides a great foil for Rathbone’s raw baritone and gritty guitar playing.

The band draws on influences ranging from the upbeat roots rock of Wilco and Alejandro Escovedo to a beautiful “down” in the vein of Joe Henry and early Neil Young. There are musical nods to The Replacements, John Lennon, Joe Jackson and David Gilmour mixed up in a very inventive stew of sound.

The band’s latest record ‘Some Kind of Beautiful Story’ is due to be released September 8th 2014 in the US on Beverly Martel Music. The record came about in collaboration with producer Thomas Johansen beginning in the summer of 2013. Recorded in Johansen’s studio in VA, the record features drummer Steve Bowman (ex Counting Crows) and bassist Brad Jones in addition to string work from long-time associate David Henry and creative keyboarding from producer Johansen who plays live with the band on many occasions.

The band have had considerable stateside success, Joe’s previous records and shows have earned him some great radio play from some well respected stations including the likes of Starbucks and XM Sirius.

The Mercy Alliance will release ‘Some Kind Of Beautiful’ on 27th October 2014
